A video of a drunk groom putting a varmala on his sister-in-law instead of the bride standing next to her, has gone viral on social media.

In the clip, the drunk groom appears to barely make sense of anything that’s happening around him and is supported by a friend standing behind him.  When it was time for the garlands to be exchanged, while the bride managed to successfully put the varmala around the swaying groom’s neck, the groom, after much coaxing by his friend, does put the varmala as well–but around his sister-in-law’s neck.

What followed the wedding ritual was a round of thrashing by the woman who shouted at the groom to take the garland off her while the bride half-heartedly tried to stop her from hitting the groom.

But, while the clip has convinced a number of Twitter users, a few users commented that the video is scripted and is part of a comedy YouTube channel. While The Update India could not independently verify the authenticity of the video, it did give Twitter users a dose of humour.

“The way groom garlanded that lady raises doubts. Nevertheless, it was quite entertaining nut the bride must have felt embarrassed,” commented Naresh M Pathak (@advnareshpathak).

Another Twitter user sweettoothforeverything (@ilizbethnoble) said, “Liquor is banned in Bihar still all the men are magically raging alcoholics. Man can barely stand on his wedding eve.”

Others also noted how the bride remained remained calm and composed the whole time.
