In January, there had been an incident that highlighted the importance of empathy and what is the value of Indian students in foreign. One such incident took place in the US which shook all the individuals,a car accident by the policemen in which an Indian student passed away.

Ms. Jaahnvi Kandula, 23 years old was a student at Northeast University. She was to graduate this December.

A youtube video has gone viral where it can be seen how the policemen are laughing at the scene and saying that , “She had a limited value” .

US Policeman reaction after killing Indian Student Jaahnavi Kandula

This incident opened the eyes of the Indian parents and students who are still residing there, this made us understand the responsibility the policemen should’ve actually had and what happened in return of that.

The students have this upbringing nowadays that everything is possible only if you move from India to a foreign country for a better salary package. Unseeing what India has given to them, I believe that success is possible everywhere if a person is determined to his/her goals and tries their best to achieve it!

The parents are sending their students by keeping a trust in the economy and it is crucial for the officers to provide emotional support to the victim and the family rather than behaving in an insensitive way.

Are there guidelines and protocols made in foreign countries for officers when responding to incidents like these? Are the officers not held accountable for their actions? These are the questions which should be asked. Though the investigation is going on at the moment, the reaction shown in the video was highly unaccepted .

If it were to happen in India, higher authorities would’ve been asked tough questions at the moment followed by a protest for justice!

It is through these incidents, there is no commitment to upholding standards of professionalism and empathy, how can we hope that incidents like these would not happen again?
