Dr Sridevi K.J.Sharmirajan – The pivotal moment in August 2022, participating in an essay competition titled “My First Novel,” marked the genesis of my literary journey. Success with this essay, delving into the intricacies of “Ponniyin Selvan,” ignited a fervor for writing. Buoyed by validation in a prestigious magazine, I ventured into crafting “Positive Infinity,” a maiden poetry book that clinched three awards, solidifying my identity as an author. This recognition, a defining moment, affirmed my chosen path and attracted a broader audience. That single decision to participate became the catalyst for a rapid ascent, transforming my passion into a purposeful and prolific literary odyssey.
As an award winning author, your work often resonates deeply with readers. How do you approach the creation of characters that captivate audiences and stay with them long after they’ve finished your book?
Dr Sridevi K.J.Sharmirajan – To create characters that stick with readers, I focus on making them real and relatable. Each character has strengths and weaknesses, like real people do. I explore their feelings and experiences, making sure they reflect the diversity of the world. I want readers to care about the characters, so I show their ups and downs in a way that everyone can understand.
I also pay attention to how characters interact with each other. Friendships, love, and conflicts are important parts of the story. The characters go through changes, just like we do in life, which keeps readers interested.I like to keep some things open to interpretation, so readers can connect with the characters in their own way. This way, even after finishing the story, the characters stay in the readers’ minds.
Your book 200 Zen Stories: Cultivating Positivity and Inner Peace has been hailed as a remarkable work of literature and received glowing reviews. What inspired the storyline and themes of this particular work, and how do you navigate the creative process while aiming for such high acclaim?
Dr Sridevi K.J.Sharmirajan – “200 Zen Stories: Cultivating Positivity and Inner Peace” originated from a deep desire to share timeless wisdom through accessible narratives. Influenced by Zen philosophy, each story reflects universal themes of simplicity, mindfulness, and inner peace. I wanted the stories to be short and easy to understand, so everyone could enjoy them.
I thought a lot about what each story should say and tried to make them helpful for everyday life.The creative process delicately balanced authenticity and relatability, distilling intricate concepts into concise, impactful stories. Meticulously curated to align ancient wisdom with contemporary relevance, the book navigates themes of acceptance and impermanence.
It makes me happy that people like the book, and I hope it brings a bit of calm and positivity to their lives.The work’s success is a testament to the symbiosis of authorial vision, transformative storytelling, and a genuine connection with readers.

Staying grounded, I focus on the joy of storytelling rather than the accolades. The key is to evolve authentically, allowing passion to guide my narratives. Negative feedback, however, is a potent catalyst for improvement. I dissect it, extracting valuable insights to refine my craft. Rather than internalizing, I embrace critiques as stepping stones, recognizing blind spots and areas for enhancement. It’s not about disproving critics but about evolving authentically. Constructive criticism is a cornerstone of my creative process, a tool for continuous refinement.The alchemy of both positive and negative feedback shapes my continuous journey, fostering a resilient, receptive mindset indispensable for refining my craft and resonating with readers.
It would be nice to know your agenda as an author. Can you share any upcoming projects or aspirations that will continue to diversify and expand your literary repertoire?
Dr Sridevi K.J.Sharmirajan – I am working on exploring uncharted genres for a new fictional book.Simultaneously, an anthology is in the works that includes short poems, quotes, and non fiction book. Additionally, a collection of short stories is underway, each narrative a unique tapestry of human experiences. I’m also looking into fun ways to tell stories using pictures,audio and maybe even collaborating with other creative minds. The aim is to create diverse stories that not only entertain but also spread positivity, making the literary world a brighter,happier,colorful and exciting to enjoy for every readers around the world.
