On December 3, 2024, the prestigious IIM Bangalore launched “Hum Ek Hain” a powerful and spirited anthem celebrating inclusion, diversity, and shared humanity. This initiative by From Mug To Mike in collaboration with IIM Bangalore marks World Disability Day with an inspiring message: “We are all one.”
The Vision Behind the Anthem
The anthem, composed by singer, composer, and vocal coach Sunil Koshy, is a rock-inspired track filled with peppy energy and heartfelt emotions. Sunil explains, “The idea stemmed from a conversation with my wife Archana Hallikeri. We felt compelled to address inclusion — not just as a word we toss around but as a truth we live by.”
The concept and direction of the accompanying music video have been skilfully helmed by Archana, who co-founded From Mug To Mike. Together, the duo aimed to create more than just a song; they wanted to spark a movement to challenge barriers and celebrate oneness. The lyrics of “Hum Ek Hain” emphasize equality and belonging written beautifully by lyricist Sahil Sultanpuri.
Voices of Resilience
The song’s beauty lies in its unique blend of voices—a mix of specially-abled and able-bodied singers—each bringing their own story of resilience and hope. Dr. Sai Kaustuv Dashgupta, a National Awardee, wheelchair warrior with brittle bone disease, Shradha Muralidharan, a financial professional with cerebral palsy, B.K. Srinivas, a former bank officer with arthrogryposis, Dr. Jai Ganesh D, a Dentist and polio survivor, Nidhi Srivastava, Prabhudev Metri, and Aneesh Metri rendered their beautiful voice and spirit to the anthem.
A Movement, Not Just a Song
“Hum Ek Hain” is not merely an anthem; it’s a call to action. With plans for screenings at colleges, corporates, and public spaces, the initiative aims to create awareness about disabilities and dismantle both physical and mental barriers through the power of music.
The creators envision a world where inclusion isn’t the exception but the rule. The anthem emphasizes that everyone is the same beneath the surface, with lyrics highlighting that the morning, the light, and the sky belong to all equally.
The video was premiered to a packed audience and students of IIM Bangalore who wholeheartedly appreciated the vision and message of the song! Prof. Rajluxmi Vaish Murthy, the Chairperson of Student Welfare launched it along with esteemed faculties serves as a powerful reminder that inclusion begins with shared humanity. This anthem encourages embracing diversity, breaking down barriers, and championing the cause of equality.
