“The Story of a Boy Named Life”

(A Persuasive Essay about Periyar’s Reform Participation towards the Social Justice)

A Boy Named Life, who was just eighteen years old. He hated his life so much that, He never treated himself as a lucky boy, instead of it, He blames himself for everything, surrounded with lots and lots of negative thoughts. He hated his name too. The only thing which often came to his mind is, I hate the word which is tagging as a name as well as my survival which is The Life. Why should I have to live in this life with a name as Life? When he was young his parents left him in an orphanage, his life was full of misery! After completing his schoolings he wanted to do his career as a passionpreneur. But he has unaware about the exact root of plans for it.

At night He was lying in the garden, the orphanage Mother Sophia asked him; what is going on my dear Life!

How could you call me like dear Life! Everything sucks to me; my life, My Name and My bitter memories, the only love and care I could have is from you mother. Now see I am stuck in my career as well, I want to become a passionpreneur, that too is not possible with my weak financial issues. What shall I do now Mother!

My Dear Boy, See Life hits you hard but never gives you a useless stuff, rather those bitter experiences makes you strong in your life dear. If you hate both your name and life, why don’t you make others life beautiful, I think making others life beautiful will give you a great satisfaction in your life, Basically You are Life, If you feel your life is not that worthy, so be worthy to someone in their life who needs you in their life as you are really a Life to them. Only you can make the sense! Think wisely! Make this idea as a root to your passionpreneur.

A sudden shock arises and hit him so hard to his mind when Mother told this to him. He generally never thought this idea in his Entire life; he spent most of his time by blaming himself that he was not a lucky person.

With this thought, He was walking beside the footpath. He saw a girl. He started to stare at her continuously that the Girl came near to him and asked him Why are you staring at me so long?

Life said, ‘I saw you somewhere but I don’t remember exactly!

I am Megha. A Social Justice Speaker, who speaks about Periyar principles to create awareness among the youth.

Life: O God Periyar! The man who violated the worship of God. A mad man! How could He even be an inspiring person to the modern youth generations. You are not spreading the Periyar principles, Your overall aim is to create a hell earth without worshipping god, you are making the society as a supremacy of  garbage like, No thought, No brain only you are developing people to insult the godly principles that’s it!  Your periyarism is making the Social Justice principle as hell. World without God is equal to, “A Man without his Sixth Sense”.

Megha: Your fruitless words never going to ruin our Periyarism.

Both had an aggressive fight.

Mother Sophia was there waiting for the bus. She saw Life using abusive words against a girl in front of a huge crowd. She quickly ran towards Life and that girl. She departed both of them from the crowd, And took them infront of the Periyar Statue which was near to them. Mother looked at both of them and asked why they were fighting in front of the crowd, she also insisted Life that Both the girl and Life were just violated the norms of social justice like misbehaving and indulging themselves as a useless person.

Then Life said the entire thing about the cause for the fight.

Life: Mother! We are Christians! This Girl is a good speaker, but her intension towards her speech is only about Periyar. She and all her principles about the Periyar will violate the term Social Justice among the people! As you know their only motive is to destroy the worshipping faith against the God! How come she could say that her speech makes a sense against the social justice, Does Periyar’s Social Justice makes sense and awareness among the people, If yes tell her to prove it! Social Justice and this Periyarism, I don’t think both togetherly can create a healthy society.

Megha: Mother! Just tell him to keep his mouth shut! He is taking this too personally. What do you know about him and his principles! If you just had an experience of the exact sense of meaning about The Great Periyar, you, I and the society won’t be as greatful as you are thinking about India as now to be. Especially in Tamilnadu. He wanted to bring the equalize societical status among the people. The people who have been broken into pieces taking the useless stuff and separating themselves tagging a useless dog belt around their neck like Caste Discrimination, Gender Discrimination, Feminist Rights, Societical Issues, Superstitious Beliefs, Religion etc. If he was not born in India People would be like a zombies sucking the people’s Blood and make a great and worst background around the Social Justice. Just leave this now tell me about your parents!

Life: See I don’t know about my fucking parents! When I was born! They just left me all alone with Mother Sophia. My life, My name and My career totally sucks! You don’t understand my feelings! Now you came into my life to destroy the rest of my useful life, talking about this idiot Old Man!

Mother Sophia after hearing the Life’s word indicating Periyar as an Idiot old man. She gave him a hard slap.

Without realizing next! Life had never seen his Mother Sophia so furious before.

Life: For this girl and that Old Man you just slapped me, How could you!

Mother Sophia: Don’t ever dare to speak about him and your parents. Your parents never left you, they just want you to make a better person to create a wonderful society and they just expected only that in their life, to your life! That’s Why they named you with the name Life! Both your parents lived in this same orphanage both of them loved each other and the Periyar principles. I never hated them as they possess the way of periyarism in their life! E.V. Ramasamy Periyar was the Gem person who great example of Social Justice. You would often ask me about my parents’ right! Now listen! When I was a little girl, My grandmother was into the Devadasi, which means a prositute server to the higher caste people. As a young girl I didn’t understood the real meaning of it. Later on it was a just great heck. My parents died due to the car accident. Only I was the world to my Grandmother. At the age of Sixteen I joined this church house and become a sister to serve for the orphanage children. Before the death of my Grandma, she told me about Periyar, He was a great person who have abolished Devadasi System and spoken the rights of the prostitute women. Knowing the importance of this right she left that system and lead a peaceful life for myself, As an old women she took a lot of caring to make me a better person in the society.

Like you, Even I thought that this Man Periyar would create this society as a hell, But one day I had an opportunity to read the book of his quotes, There He mentioned that,

  • No individual who came forward to achieve social reform on the basis of religion has ever succeeded even to a small extent.
  • If the education, the rich and the administrators are opposed to the welfare if the toiling people and to their enjoying all the fruits to their labor, then they are only fit to disappear from the face of the earth.
  • Without an upheaval in our attitudes to religion, caste, customs, traditions, orthodoxies, God and commandments, which are the bases of social tyranny, no political reform will be of any use to the ordinary folk.
  • Politics is a means to end social evils. Society does not need Politics that has no bearing on social work.
  • The real service through politics is to serve society.
  • If you need a proper Strong Social Justice, People should feel the need for showing compassion to others.
  • Though I am more than sixty years of age, my feelings are not as old, only because of my contact with the young. To do nothing is something my mind is never inclined to. Rest and Boredom are suicide to me.

My Dear Life, He never told us not to worship the god, if someone uses the god as a weapon to create a separation among the people, he wanted that to be abolished, the fake godly principles that makes the people sense as a foolish weapon against the society. Your Parents did many wonderful works on Social Justice that they gave their life for it. Somehow your mom managed to came here and delivered you in my hands and said Make Him A better person as his father and after that she Died. If he really wants the people not to worship the God. He never created the Vaikom Satyagraha Protest in Kerala. In order to give rights to the Dalit People who were not allowed to enter into the temple to worship god directly.

That’s Why I insisted you to become a great Social reformer like your parents. I thought Passionpreneur is just related to up skill a great career but If you become a person who can create a revolution in the Social Justice and Equality then it would be a wonderful life making decisions of desires for the hopeless people whose mind exactly relates with you, who thinks negatively by blaming their life uselessly. This girl just made your day. Just respect people not on gender barriers but through their epitomic supremacy thoughts of serving the society and the welfare of every person’s Life. Life! Just make The Life purposeful and meaningful for those who consider their life to be a complete meaningless and worthless deed.

Life: I understood the value of Life and the real meaning of Life. Sorry Megha! I take back my words! You are right! Make Hay for the Periyar!

Megha: See if you can Do it! Everyone can do a better version of Social Justice that adds meaning towards the  idelogical thoughts in an epic one. Periyar is not just a name but a great bunch of package of real meaning of Social Justice. The thing is to diffenciate the thoughts in a righteous way. Good luck Life! Have a great life ahead in People’s life as your parents did it! Bye Mother you are really a Mother of Justice.

Mother Sophia: Bye Dear! Progress your thought as a seed of development in everyone’s life, as you did to my boy Life! Thank you!

Megha: My pleasure! Make Hay for the Periyar and the Periyarism Thoughts!

Social Justice is defined as the fair and compassionate distribution of the fruits of economic growth, this process must assure that growth is sustainable, that the integrity of the natural environment is respected, that that the use of non-renewable resources is rationalized, and that future generations are able to enjoy a beautiful and hospitable earth. There is a need of strong rights and human dignity, the rule of law, justice, equality, non-discrimination and promising to leave no one behind. Despite significant progress, the needs of specific social groups such as children, women, youth, persons with disabilities, older persons, migrants and refugees are not addressed to the extent they should be. Social justice cannot be achieved without breaking the barriers of fear and ensuring the participation of all people, in all spheres and levels of society. Training programme for developing social protection policies using a participatory approach;Training programme for mainstreaming social justice principles in development plans, policies and programmes;Training programme for enhancing national capacities in responding to the needs of youth in formulating inclusive and sustainable development policies are required at the national and international level.

Investing in human capacity and amplifying people’s voices through specific skills is therefore central to empowering them to better shape the future they want. Priority issues for the world include: gender-based violence, women’s economic participation and access to resources, female political participation, women and the knowledge society, and women, peace and security. There should be equal rights for men and women. It is increasingly recognized that meaningful development and lasting peace cannot be achieved without the elimination of discrimination against women. It is important to strengthen women’s participation in political life at the national and subnational levels, and to strengthen the capacity of women seeking public office. A parallel shift in the discourse on women in development has sought to change the perception of women from one of beneficiaries to one of active participants in development.  This has involved redefining development to encompass a process that replaces constraints with choices.  A factor clearly responsible for inhibiting the choices of women in development is the entire ideology around Feminism . Feminism is not about breeding hatred, prejudice or contempt for men or misandry .But the goal of feminism is to create equity, which is essential for leveling the benchmark to ensure that no one’s rights are violated due to factors such as race, gender, language, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity, political or other beliefs, nationality, social origin, class, or wealth status.Feminism works towards equality of all genders and not placing women superior .How the strength of Feminity is misused for personal vendetta? , that we cannot comment on and engage into as it is totally a distraction from the actual cause by few in the society. Women who tend to stand for either themselves or for an equitable cause are not looking at a resolve that is meant to stand the testimony of time as being a rule breaker or forgetting their belief systems or principles in life. Feminism does not at all believe that being a woman is great or better than being a man. The purpose of feminism is not at all to degrade men and ignore them. Equality between women and men requires changes in attitudes and power relations, in institutions and law, in economic regulations and the centres of political decision-making. It is up to States, international organizations and civil society to safeguard women’s rights to education, political participation, freedom of choice, safety and security, health care and employment. Gender equality will make the world safer and healthier. Efforts should be made to encourage gender equality, not female superiority so as to ensure distribution of fair means in a just and equitable society meant to work for the progress of mankind at large .

Feminism is not about campaigns around “Mahila(Women) Morcha (Campaigns) to champion the cause of only women ,but to get structural and transformational change in the mindset of many towards the set patriachial norms. These norms are redundant and are the ones that no longer serve the relevant fruits of productivity and a gender perspective to mainstream any process of assessing the implications for women and men of any planned action, including legislation, policies or programmes, in all areas and at all levels. Human rights instruments that take into account the specific situation of women in society with regards to accessing or exercising their human rights, or which aim to protect them from violence allow freedom from discrimination, right to life, freedom from torture, right to privacy, access to health, right to decent living conditions, right to safety, and many others. Feminism is about championing the evasion of a combination of patriarchy and capitalism that is the root cause of  women’s oppression. It is imperative to  improve knowledge about discriminatory laws that impede progress for girls and women and laws that protect the rights of girls and women in every aspect of their lives. Legal gender equality is a prerequisite for a gender-equal world and an inclusive, resilient economic recovery. If true feminism were followed, then all of the victims should be treated equally. Victims would cease to be male or female but only victims of abuse. Pseudo-feminism suggests that women deserve more respect, or people of other sexes do not deserve respect.

Social justice should be seen as a key vehicle for transformational change. Only when the active participation and equal rights of people are upheld, will all countries be able to deliver on their commitment to leaving no one behind. The need of the hour is to deploy a strategy for making women’s as well as men’s concerns and experiences an integral dimension of the design, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of policies and programmes in all political, economic and societal spheres .This is to emphasise on social inclusion, human rights processes that women and men benefit equally and thus ,inequality is not perpetuated.
