1. Your journey as a contemporary author has been truly inspiring. How did your passion for storytelling transform into a successful writing career?

Porches:
I always love telling stories, I love narrating stories to people. I have seen and read bulk of the stories all my life, so I just transform into my imaginary world and weave it together, with creating the characters in the world of literature. I always stuck with the basic emotions and complex narrative techniques. I believe that’s my strength.

2. Your latest book The Boat Mail has created curiosity among readers. What inspired you to write this emotionally powerful story?

Porches:
The Emotion itself, there’s a long path that has driven me to this point. The journey of the train Boat Mail itself is fascinating right from its origin to up to date. It has changed lives of people, I have herd how much people relied on a train not only Boat Mail, every train that passes their town or village. Till now, there are several people who rely on train journeys searching for their goals and running along their destinations with clinging onto their destiny, so I always wanted to write a story about that and adding to that Dhanush Kodi, the place itself tells your million stories, when you stand there, listen to those waves and wind, the eerie silence of the abandoned land, narrates the best stories of its time, with respect to your imagination, that’s where it started.

3. Your writing style beautifully blends poetic storytelling, emotions, and atmospheric narratives. How do you create such immersive experiences for your readers?

Porches:
We live that way, if you’re having a conversation with a person in restaurant, you don’t listen to only their voice, you will be hearing the other table’s voices, the sound of plates and cutleries move and the nature of course it makes the background noise, the leaves clatter and the wind blows, I simply narrate as if you would hear those, you need to feel the heat if it is a summer and a healthy breeze if it is a winter. I strongly believe the Geography has much to do with the emotions, I never miss a chance to narrate how Geographically my story blended with the characters’ psychology, which is the 60% reason of the emotions.

4. From The Eternal Chaos of Love to The Chosen Goddesses and A String of Musings, how has your voice as an author evolved over the years?

Porches:
I believe I have just known more people’s emotions well. For my debut, I had an urge to make a debut in the field and want to be known as the writer but that urge has gradually gone down and now I feel that I should be more responsible of what I write and what I tell to the readers, I have a medium to transcend the information,the imagination, the metaphors and the world behind it with people. I have added an extra responsibility when every I depict a group of people. That’s what I feel as my evolution as a writer and yeah, I learn more about the nuances of the literature.

5. The Boat Mail explores themes, emotions, and human connections. What is the one message you want readers to carry after reading the book?

Porches:
Nature created us, we haven’t created the nature, we all are bound to its attributes, we all should respect the nature and we should start loving it, embrace it along with our loved ones.

6. As an award-winning writer and mentor, how do you encourage aspiring authors to find their unique storytelling voice?

Porches:
Know your roots, take your stories from your soil and your peoplr, they are more connected to you than anything, raise a voice from the soil. Don’t search for the stories from the brain alone, your heart never stops telling you stories for every millisecond, listen to it.

7. Your books have connected with readers through authenticity and depth. What role do emotions play in your creative process?

Porches:
Emotions are vital part of my stories, in fact everyone’s story. Without emotions, they are just paragraphs of words. Only trump card you could use to pull the readers into your book is actually the emotions of the characters.

8. Your second novel, The Chosen Goddesses has attained a good recognition from the literature forum, it has been published in the research journals of various Universities and Colleges across English literature department, did you expect this kind of reception?

Porches:
No, honestly. When I wrote that, the writing process took a nice number of days and months, it tested my temperament as a writer and it brought the resilience in me as a human. It is thus far the most well-received stories of mine, before The Boat Mail. To this kind of literature recognitions, I feel that time I spent, the world I created for that novel, didn’t go vain and I’m much satisfied that my story has something to tell to people and it has much things to discuss in a reputed literature forum.

9. In your stories, religion plays a prominent role, why?

Porches:
Be it right or wrong, we all belong to some religion socially. Whenever a character is written, as said already the Geography and their Psychology mean much to them. For that, the social norms such as religions, the pop culture, their beliefs play a vital role in constructing the characteristics of a character. But it shouldn’t be stereotypical, as again mentioning, the responsibility must be taken.

10. For the first time in The Boat Mail, you set the narrative in a first-person tone, from the train, to the sea, to Porwal and Fathima, what makes you to choose this unique blended narrative technique?

Porches:
The Boat Mail is actually the story of the train, waves and the people, I thought people telling their stories in their own voices would be easier for the people to connect with, especially the epistolary episodes. I wanted them to be private, me as an author stepped away from the deep conversations the characters are having and writing each other and I want to project the conversations between The Boat Mail and The Sea are soul of the entire novel.

11. In The Boat Mail, your metaphors are underlying throughout the novels, especially with Fathima and Porwal. What made you connect them with the Train and the Bay of Bengal?

Porches:
Trains always act like the character of your life, it comes, it stops, it takes you along, it breathes, it smokes, it has a purpose. There’s a famous motivational line ‘Wait for your train’, so in all means, the train acts as a metaphorical character of life. Same with the Bay of Bengal, as someone from Tamil Nadu, we always see it as a character, it feeds us, it threatens us, its sound resonates with our lifestyle. That’s how the metaphors are made.

12. “If wind has a destiny…” why this dialogue repeats several times in The Boat Mail, why it is specifically selected as the iconic line of the novel?

Porches:
The novel itself holds the destinies together, it is a sequential bundle of events laid on the parallel tracks, co jointed couplings aligning with the literature theories like dues ex machina. So, I felt that when Porwal promises Fathima, it feels like The Boat Mail promises its passengers, when they leave the train. The train or the passengers don’t know when would they meet again, so I felt that this resonates with his character. I had a firm belief that the intensity of this particular dialogue would grow deeper along the story, thankfully it did and almost everyone who read the novel mentioned this.

13. How challenging it is to write real-life characters?

Porches:
It is very challenging; I had an extra responsibility of depicting them in my story which I never done before. When I met them, they were super excited and shared their experiences with me, I had permission from them, which has boosted my confidence much.

14. What can readers expect next from Porches, and what are your future goals as a contemporary author?

Porches:
More stories, more literature, more people and more narrations.
