वयोवृद्ध कांग्रेस नेता मल्लिकार्जुन खड़गे बुधवार को AICC के नए अध्यक्ष के रूप में चुने गए। खड़गे राज्यसभा में विपक्ष के नेता हैं और गांधी परिवार के करीबी माने जाते हैं। उन्होंने छात्र नेता के तौर पर अपने राजनीतिक करियर की शुरुआत की थी।
कांग्रेस को 24 साल में अपना पहला गैर-गांधी अध्यक्ष मिला और 137 साल पुराने इतिहास में छठा अध्यक्ष मिला।
वरिष्ठ नेताओं मल्लिकार्जुन खड़गे और शशि थरूर के बीच चयन के लिए डाले गए 9,500 से अधिक वोटों की गिनती के बाद कांग्रेस को 24 साल में अपना पहला गैर-गांधी अध्यक्ष मिलेगा, जो कि 137 साल पुराने इतिहास में छठा है। खड़गे को गांधी परिवार के साथ उनकी कथित निकटता और बड़ी संख्या में वरिष्ठ नेताओं का समर्थन करने के लिए पसंदीदा माना जाता है,
अपने लगभग 137 साल पुराने इतिहास में यह छठी बार है कि कोई चुनावी मुकाबला तय कर रहा है कि सोनिया गांधी के उत्तराधिकारी के रूप में पार्टी के अध्यक्ष का पद कौन संभालेगा।
