AUTHOR YASHI LATH

Dear Men,

It’s okay to cry. Crying is a constructive way of expressing emotions. It doesn’t make you vulnerable, it expresses your strength and emotions. It’s okay to express yourself and share problems with close ones. It’s completely fine to feel anxious and share insecurities with trustworthy ones. We all go through several hardships in life and experience an emotional breakdown. It’s okay for you too to have an emotional breakdown just remember that everything will be alright. Just don’t let the toxic stereotypes and expectations of society control your mind and personality, find a better version of yourself before stepping into the shoes of a gentleman.

Be a better human being for yourself.

And be kind and understanding to yourself as well as to others.

From the land of the Ardhanarishwara …

It is said that the whole world is nothing but the Tandava dance of Lord Shiva, who symbolises consciousness . “ARDHANARISHWAR” means perfect blend of feminine and masculine. Of the numerous forms of Lord Shiva, Ardhanarishwara is probably the most unique.Lord Shiva has been spendiferous in his accords to give equal status to his wife Lordess Parvati . The mythology of Ardhanarishwar is a celebration of gender equality by highlighting the complementary nature of the masculine and feminine. In life, the process of hope-disappointment, happiness-sorrow and life-death goes on at its own pace. At the same time, the undeniable truth is that if there is happiness today, then surely there will be sorrow tomorrow, because life is fragile and no one can escape from it. It is said that God is truth, truth is Shiva and Shiva is beautiful. Therefore one form of Lord Shiva is Satyam, Shivam and Sundaram. Without Shiva the concept of nature is baseless and without nature there is no basis for human life.

Lord Shiva believes that every man and woman has their own independent universe i.e. subjective existence. Each has its own unique way of looking at the world and behaving, so it is very important to understand their emotions. Purusha is the passive force of the universe, while Prakriti is the active, dynamic force. Both these forces must embrace and fuse with each other to generate and sustain the universe. Without the co-operation of nature, there is no importance of imagination, nor of the knowledge that emerges from it. Knowledge is important to run the world . Such an advance notion has been in existence since time immemorial with the emphasis on the concept of Ardhanarishvara indicating that “totality lies beyond duality” .This has also laid an emphasis on  both being part of the Supreme Being, being two equal parts, making the whole, then why do we contribute to the perception that women are the only ones who will benefit from a more equal society. It is also true that we can only succeed through the participation of both women and men.

It is a popular belief that every husband should be like Lord Shiva as he fully respects his wife’s feelings , then in reality why are many men viewed as well with the tiniest of details of many trying to do something or either being a chauvinist or a misogynist .The entire concept of gender discrimination is also visualised as a powerful man being a tormentor or trying to pass lewd remarks at workplace . How many men do we see availing the advantage of family leave which is indubitably available to women after the birth or adoption of a new child? At workplace many are concerned that a complaint will make them seem less “manly” or believe that they should just “man up” and deal with the harassment. There are also reports for many men being glossed over for promotion because he needed to “tone down ” and act more like a man in accordance with gender conformity . Some hierarchial organsiation have outdated ideas about what work is appropriate for women, what work is appropriate for men, and how that work should be rewarded.Gender is purely a social construct . Gender Equality is a concept that is yet to be materialized. Around the world different individuals and groups of people are marginalized and discriminated on the basis of various factors, owing to gender discrimination many men are also not able to use their full potential or assert their rights to live healthy life, and this in turn does have a deep impact in economic development.

Just as Ardhanareeshvara symbolizes male and female principles cannot be separated. It conveys the unity of opposites in the universe, similarly gender equality is must for over all development of the entire world. Gender equality is indispensable for peaceful and just world and concerns both men and women equally . Gender equality is not only matter of human right but also basis of economic development. Gender equality is not only matter of human right but also basis of economic development. Due to prevailing attitudes towards men, society and the system finds it hard to believe or accept that they live in a society where men are also discriminated against. For men, gender equality and a reorientation of masculinity are essential. People discriminate against not only females but men as well .
