Established in 2017, Shikhar-The Mountaineering Club of Atma Ram Sanatan Dharma College has quickly risen to popularity in the University. The student society aims to promote adventurous activities amongst college students and popularizes the field of mountaineering in the youth. The team of young enthusiasts organizes various adventurous events and activities for its members, as well as other students of the college. They have more than a hundred members in their society.
In the last few years, Shikhar has organized many treks to locations such as Roopkund, Brahmatal, Kedarkanta, Chandrashila, to name a few. Other events include Wall Climbing sessions, seminars with famous mountaineers like Devang Thapliyal, screening of mountaineering related movies, and much more. The club also organized a trip to Rishikesh for river rafting and camping.
The Update India sat down with the President of the Club, Aditya Mishra. Here’s what he had to say. “Our society has grown a lot in the last few years. We were able to organize treks in Uttarakhand before, during, and after Covid, and thankfully, all of them were successful events, where no one suffered any injuries or mishaps, and it turned out to be a great experience for everyone involved. We plan to organize a trek to Himanchal Pradesh sometime soon, and our ultimate goal is to construct a climbing wall in our college. I would like to thank our Principal sir Prof. Gyantosh Kumar Jha, who has supported us with all our events, and constantly motivate us to pursue this field. Our Convener, Dr. Neeta Azad ma’am has been a great mentor for us, who have helped us in growing so much.”
The following are the student office bearers of the society –
President – Aditya Mishra
Vice Presidents – Jagriti Mehrotra and Siya Kaul
Secretary – Ajay Pannu
Joint Secretaries – Yash Dubey and Gulshan Bharti
Other team members include Mehak Sumrani, Kartik Tomar, Aryan Srivastava and Amisha Goel, who have assisted their seniors and led the club to success.
Shikhar-The Mountaineering Club truly believes that mountaineering as a sport should be promoted in the country, and they aim to keep organizing more such events, so that more and more people get to know about the field. The Update India commends the efforts of the society and wishes them the best for their future.
