History has the power to shape how we understand ourselves, and few writers are as committed to preserving India’s rich civilisational legacy as Rajeev Agarwal. A passionate historian and award-winning author, Rajeev Agarwal has dedicated years to researching the people, cultures and empires that laid the foundations of the Indian subcontinent. Through meticulous research and accessible storytelling, he strives to make history engaging for readers of all ages. His acclaimed works, including Ancient Indian History, Wisdom of the Ages: The Great Saints of India, and Indus Valley Civilisation: World’s Most Ancient Civilisation, have earned him recognition as a respected voice in historical literature, including the International Author Excellence Award 2025.

In this exclusive interview, Rajeev Agarwal reflects on his journey as a writer, his passion for Indian history, and what readers can look forward to next.

Q. To begin, could you tell us a little about yourself and your books? How would you introduce yourself and your work to someone discovering you for the first time?

Rajeev Agarwal: I have always been deeply fascinated by India’s ancient past and the remarkable civilisation that flourished on this land thousands of years ago. That passion gradually evolved into a lifelong pursuit of studying historical texts, researching forgotten narratives and sharing them with readers in an engaging and accessible manner. As an author, my aim is to bridge the gap between academic history and the general reader by presenting well-researched accounts that are both informative and enjoyable. Through books such as Ancient Indian History, Wisdom of the Ages: The Great Saints of India, and Indus Valley Civilisation: World’s Most Ancient Civilisation, I hope to encourage readers to rediscover India’s extraordinary heritage and appreciate its lasting influence on the world.

Q. Who do you see as your ideal readers? Would you recommend your books to people who aren’t particularly interested in history, and if so, why?

Rajeev Agarwal: My books are written for the entire reading community with an interest in Indian history, spanning readers from around 14 to 70 years of age. Ancient Indian History explores the ancient period in considerable depth, with particular emphasis on the Indus Valley Civilisation and the reign of Emperor Chandragupta Maurya. At the same time, I believe these books are equally suitable for readers who may not usually pick up historical works. I have consciously presented historical events, discoveries and personalities in an engaging and accessible style, making them enjoyable for anyone who is curious about India’s remarkable past and its enduring influence on our civilisation.

Q. What is your long-term vision as a writer? Are there any personal or professional milestones you hope to achieve in your literary journey?

Rajeev Agarwal: My long-term vision as a writer is to deepen public understanding of India’s rich civilisation and encourage more people to appreciate our traditions, culture and extraordinary contributions to fields such as science, economics and geography. I firmly believe history is not merely a record of the past but a source of wisdom that helps us understand the present and shape the future. If my books inspire readers to explore India’s heritage with curiosity, pride and a desire to learn more, I will consider that the greatest milestone of my literary journey.

Q. Can you give us a glimpse of what you’re working on next? Are there any upcoming books or projects that readers should be excited about?

Rajeev Agarwal: I am currently working on an ambitious trilogy based on three of the greatest empires in Indian history: the Maratha Empire, the Sikh Empire and the Rajput kingdoms. The first book will focus on the Marathas, followed by the Sikh Empire, while the final instalment will explore the legacy of the Rajput kingdoms. I am excited to continue bringing these defining chapters of Indian history to readers through the same combination of thorough research and engaging storytelling that has shaped my previous books.

With a growing body of work dedicated to India’s historical legacy, Rajeev Agarwal continues to inspire readers to rediscover the nation’s remarkable past. As he expands his literary journey with new projects, Rajeev Agarwal remains committed to presenting history with authenticity, clarity and a genuine passion for India’s civilisational heritage. For readers seeking to explore the depth of India’s history through engaging and well-researched books, his work offers an ideal place to begin.
