Position Statement: MTaI on the Recent Suspension and Restoration of Cashless Healthcare Services

0

Representing the world’s leading MedTech companies in India, MTaI is committed to two goals: improving patient access to high-quality care and ensuring the long-term sustainability of the industry.

The recent developments surrounding the temporary suspension of cashless healthcare services for policyholders of Bajaj Allianz General Insurance and Care Health Insurance have caused deep concern within the broader healthcare ecosystem. While we welcome the swift resolution of this matter and urge all stakeholders to restore continuity, the episode underscores a fragility that must not be overlooked.

Mr. Pavan Choudary, chairman of the Medical Technology Association of India (MTaI), said, “Cashless access is not a convenience but a lifeline – the very foundation of health insurance. Its suspension, even briefly, erodes public confidence, burdens families with sudden financial stress, and can endanger lives in emergencies. While hospitals and insurers face real challenges around tariffs and settlements, these must not stall patient access. What is needed is transparent dialogue and a regulatory framework that protects patients while ensuring fairness for all stakeholders. The rise in healthcare costs makes universal cashless treatment imperative. Uninterrupted cashless care must be treated as a collective duty, with patients placed firmly at the centre of every decision.”
